4.1. Ufungaji wa Pedal

To install the pedals on your bicycle, you will need an 8mm Allen key. Note that the left pedal has a left-hand thread and the right pedal has a right-hand thread.

  1. Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The left pedal is typically marked with an "L" and the right with an "R" on the spindle.
  2. Apply a small amount of grease to the pedal threads on both pedals.
  3. Insert the right pedal (R) into the right crank arm (drive side) and turn clockwise to tighten.
  4. Insert the left pedal (L) into the left crank arm (non-drive side) and turn counter-clockwise to tighten.
  5. Tighten both pedals securely using an 8mm Allen key. Recommended torque: 30-40 Nm.

4.2. Cleat Installation

The Kéo Grip Cleats are designed for use with 3-hole road cycling shoes. Proper cleat positioning is crucial for comfort and efficiency.

  1. Align the cleat with the three holes on the sole of your cycling shoe.
  2. Insert the three screws and washers provided.
  3. Adjust the cleat position:
    • Fore/Aft: Position the cleat so the ball of your foot is directly over the pedal spindle.
    • Kando: Adjust left or right to ensure your foot is comfortably positioned on the pedal.
    • Angular: The grey Kéo Grip cleats provide 4.5 degrees of float, allowing for natural foot movement. Ensure the cleat is aligned with your natural foot angle.
  4. Once satisfied with the position, tighten the cleat screws securely. Do not overtighten.

5.1. Clipping In

To clip into the pedal:

  1. Place the front of your cleat onto the front lip of the pedal.
  2. Press down firmly with your heel until you hear a "click" sound, indicating the cleat is securely engaged.

5.2. Clipping Out

To unclip from the pedal:

  1. Twist your heel outwards, away from the bicycle frame.
  2. Continue twisting until the cleat disengages from the pedal.

Practice clipping in and out multiple times in a safe area (e.g., against a wall or on grass) until you are comfortable and confident.

5.3. Adjusting Release Tension

The Kéo Classic 3+ pedals allow you to adjust the release tension (the force required to unclip) between 8 and 12 Nm. This adjustment is made using a 3mm Allen key on the screw located at the rear of the pedal.
